CENTRAL FLORIDA OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION
Executive Board Meeting –
12-16-07
The meeting was
opened by the president, Jeff Deen, at 3:43 PM, in
the Edgewater High School Senior cafeteria.
The minutes for
the last meeting posted on the web site were
approved.
Jeff discussed an
anonymous letter of apology that was received
after an anonymous letter of complaint that was
sent to the FHSAA, detailing displeasure with the
assigning process for basketball officials in the
CFOA. Jeff announced that the best position for
the CFOA was to leave the issue alone and get on
with the season.
Cary Fields
presented the planning efforts that were ongoing
to put on a professional CFOA Hall of Fame
banquet. Selection and notification of selected
recipients or families was a slow process. Doc’s
Restaurant and menu were reviewed and discussion
on dates followed. April 19 was suggested as a
possible date, but availability of the restaurant
or members may force another date selection. The
price/cost of the dinner was discussed and Horace
Cannady made a motion, Mike Goodspeed second, for
the cost to the CFOA membership would be $25 per
person and the CFOA would pay anything over that
amount. Motion passed. Raising the dues to cover
that and other rising cost issues was discussed
and Greg Vanatta made a motion, Prince Pollard
second, to raise the early registration dues to
$20 for football and flag football, and $30 for
basketball. Motion passed.
A school
sportsmanship award was discussed and Greg Vanatta
made a motion, Horace Cannady second, to have the
3 Vice presidents decide on the school and
allocate $400 and a plaque for the award. Motion
passed.
Discussion on the
fine schedule for canceled games. Record keeping
emphasis and amounts were undecided. Horace
Cannady made a motion, Greg Vanatta second, to
pursue the documenting and collection of fines for
canceled games. Motion was tabled to the next
meeting.
Mike Goodspeed
spoke about the cost, the excellent help, and the
success of the CFOA involvement with the FHSAA
Championship series games held in Orlando. He
reported the FHSAA was extremely satisfied with
the quality of service provided by the CFOA during
the entire schedule of games. Mike’s organization
effort both before and during the games scheduled
was praised.
Greg Vanatta
announced that 2007 was a good collection year
from both the schools and officials. He said he
was disturbed by the large number of game
assignments per week. Greg said he noticed too
many inadvertent whistles this year in football.
He discussed the ejected fan at Oviedo High
School. He offered a concern that he witnessed too
many officials ignoring the requirement for high
school mechanics, and are using college mechanics
in basketball.
