CENTRAL FLORIDA OFFICIALS
ASSOCIATION
Executive Board Meeting -
10-23-07
The meeting was
opened by the president, Jeff Deen, at 6:34 PM, at
the law office at 781 Douglas Avenue, Altamonte
Springs, Florida.
The meeting
agenda centered around providing a solid
foundation from which to launch the 2007-2008 CFOA
basketball season with a manageable direction and
mutual understanding of assignments and
evaluations.
Jeff Deen
challenged the members of the board to consider
any areas of concern that could be improved, and
offer corrective solutions that would have the
most impact to minimize potential discord within
the CFOA officiating membership. Discussion
followed, and the methods used to evaluate and
rank officials, and how it affected assignments
became the main topic of discussion.
The following key
points were generally agreed upon as being of
highest importance:
1. Provide
guidelines to eliminate any misunderstanding of
the tasks and responsibilities of each member of
the board and committees. Those committees include
the Assignment, Evaluation, Recommendation,
Education, and Grievance Committees mandated by
the FHSAA Officials Guidebook.
2. Emphasis must
be equally placed on evaluating the least
experienced official to those that have achieved a
much higher level of officiating skills. It was
explained that it was just as important to use the
evaluating process to mentor and encourage new and
younger officials, and not just focus on officials
that have met the qualifications for post-season
assignments.
3. The
Assignment Committee must insure the officials
that are assigned games that meet the ranking and
registration criteria dictated by the level and
rating of the contest.
4. The
Assignment Officer and the Vice President of the
sport in season shall resolve any ranking
discrepancies together. Any unsettled controversy
will be decided or corrected by the Evaluation
Committee.
5. The Arbiter
software program will be covered by guidelines to
insure administrative changes are not made without
the full approval of all the using CFOA agencies.
Cary Fields
reported on the progress being made to have a
banquet to be held at a convenient time in 2008.
All CFOA officials will be encouraged to attend.
The plan is to honor past and present members
whose contributions have resulted in the
successful development of the oldest and largest
officiating association in the state. This honor
will be in the form of members being inducted into
the inaugural CFOA Hall of Fame program.
The next
scheduled meeting of the Executive Board will be
held on Sunday, December 16.
Meeting adjourned
at 8:37 PM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Roland Taylor,
CFOA Secretary 10-24-07
